The grommets on the tarp are not aligned with the corners of your tent and are unnecessary when used as a ground tarp. They are only included for convenience when using the tarp for other purposes.
The ground tarp is intentionally smaller than your tent's footprint to divert rainwater away and prevent pooling. If any part extends beyond the tent, fold it underneath before setting up. Do not stake the tarp under the tent; its weight will keep it in place.
