Seasoning the canvas by wetting down first after setting up allows the Hydra Shield fibers to swell up and seal out the moisture, you can also set up at location and allow the rain to activate it as an option. Simply put, you are more comfortable and should rarely, if ever have to retreat the canvas, if for some reason you are requested to treat the canvas, only treat the effected area with Kiwi Kamp Dry silicone based spray as an application on the outside of tent.
